The Wright Leadership Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire (WLMLQ) is a psychological inventory containing forty-six items concerning leadership styles and nine items relating to leadership results. The MLQ was constructed by Bruce J. Avolio and Bernard M. Bass with the goal of assessing a full range of leadership styles. Dr. Nathan Wright has customized the questionnaire to enhance leadership style benchmarking. The MLQ is composed of nine scales that gauge three leadership styles: transformational leadership (5 scales), transactional leadership (2 scales), passive/avoidant behavior (2 scales), and three scales that measure outcomes of leadership. The WLMLQ takes about 15 minutes to finish and can be administered to an individual or group. The WLMLQ can be used to determine the difference between effective and ineffective leaders at all company levels and has been authenticated across many cultures and types of companies. It is used for leadership development and study.
